Advanced Care Medical Specialists, PC provides care to the advanced elderly in multiple extended care and rehabilitation facilities in Northwest Indiana.  We provide Nurse Practitioners and Physicians on-site to provide the highest quality care.  This allows us to continuously follow-up with our patients to keep them on the road to recovery and manage all of their medical needs.

Dr. Stemer has provided medical legal expert witness consulting for over 35 years.  He works with attorneys for both plaintiff and defense.  He has testified in over 50 cases and provided consulting on over 150 cases.  His thorough and precise work has led to countless victories.  He provides unbiased, high-level expert witness services.

Dr. Stemer has provided medical directorship services to facilities and hospitals for 37 years.  He has piloted antibiotic stewardship and has been instrumental in reducing “return to hospital” days.

Meet Our Team

Alexander A. Stemer, M.D.

Dr. Stemer was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1948. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1969 and his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1973. He completed his postgraduate training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, with board certification in Internal Medicine in 1976 and Infectious Disease in 1978.

Dr. Stemer was the Founder of Medical Specialists Centers of Indiana, now Franciscan Medical Specialists, a multi-specialty physician group located in Northwest Indiana.  He is also the Founder of Advanced Care Medical Specialists, a practice committed to the medical care of the advanced elderly and is the Medical Director of multiple extended care facilities. He is a pioneer of home intravenous therapy, ambulatory infusion therapy, has pioneered a program to significantly decrease serious hospital infections, and is a leader in bringing advanced medical therapies to community healthcare.

Dr. Stemer is happily married to Dusty Stemer and is the proud father of six children. His interests include the varied activities of his family, tennis and vintage sports car racing.

Sandra Rardin, NP

Sandy joined Advanced Care Medical Specialists in October 2016.  She graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing, FNP in 2012 from Indiana Wesleyan University.  She spent 12 years working in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Catherine’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse.  Sandy primarily treats patients at Symphony of Crown Point.  Sandy enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Paula Brown, NP

Paula graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2009 with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and from Maryville University with her Master of Science Degree in Nursing in 2017. She joined Advanced Care Medical Specialists in August 2020 and primarily treats patients at Symphony of Chesterton. Paula has done a significant amount of nursing home work and believes that Geriatrics is her first calling.

Milica Ivanov, NP (“Mici”)

Mici graduated from Grand Canyon University in June 2018 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She continued her education and received her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Chamberlain University in October 2021. Mici spent ten years working as a Registered Nurse in various hospitals in Indiana and California. She joined ACMS in 2022 upon successful passing of her board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Mici has a passion for caring for her patients and enjoys spending time with family and friends in her free time.

Joanne Weisz, NP

Joanne graduated from Purdue University Northwest with her Master’s Degree in Science in Nursing in August 2018. Prior to receiving her Master’s Degree and becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Joanne worked as a Registered Nurse for nine years, primarily in the Emergency Department. Joanne joined ACMS in July 2022 and primarily treats patients at Symphony of Dyer. Joanne has a passion for teaching and does that through supervising clinical groups and as a limited term lecturer. In her free time, Joanne loves to garden and travel with her family.
